Monday Night War!

wwe-tna

Monday Jan 4th was the biggest night that pro wrestling has had in years. Both WWE’s Raw and TNA’s Impact dug into their bag of tricks to start off the new year with a bang. For those who are not as familiar with wrestling or the significance of what happened on Monday night let me try to bring you up to speed. If you can imagine for a minute that your watching your favorite show Desperate Housewives, and on the same night at the same time your other favorite show American Idol comes on. Not only is Idol on at the same time but the judges are Eva Longoria, Teri Hatcher and Marcia Cross. Then back over on Housewives who should appear but Paula Abdul who hooks up with everybody’s husband and gets pregnant by one of them. What would you do, which would you watch. Now you see the dilemma.

So as a fan of wrastlin for many years I’d just like to share my thoughts on what transpired on Monday So I was pleasantly surprised to see on Impact Jeff Hardy, Scott Hall, X-Pac & Ric Flair. To me one of the best things about wrestling  is seeing the guys “jump ship” aka go from one show to another. To have 4 guys who haven’t been on TV in a while or were recently in the WWE all show up in TNA in the first hour, I gotta admit it was exciting. I watched TNA up until Raw started and Bret came out. I can honestly say that seeing Bret Hart in a WWE ring for the first time in 12 years is one of the best things that I’ve seen in a while. When Bret called out Shawn Michaels and those two were standing in the ring together staring face to face I literally had goosebumps and for just a few moments it  felt like everything was right in the world of wrestling again, everything just went away. All the Batista matches, Hornswoggle angles, David Arquette winning the world title it was all gone. It’s unreal that two wrestlers who haven’t wrestled against each other in over 12 years is still more exciting to me than anything else that’s going on today. I probably could have watched those two play hop scotch for the rest of the night and been completely satisfied. After Bret and Shawn finally met there needed closure I turned TNA back on for a lot of the night. I’ve gotta admit they had me, I didn’t wanna miss what happened next. I knew that on Raw the only thing I wanted to see was Bret so I’d just flip over anytime I thought He’d be on. That’s what it’s all about keeping the viewer guessing because when you always know what’s going to happen then really who cares. I’m kinda excited to see if TNA can really bring any excitement back to their show. There’s been a lot of false starts and promises of new beginnings for them so it’s always hard to invest in their show, but if they went head to head with Raw on Monday then I’m sure I’d flip over to see what’s going on. Hopefully they can land a permanent Monday night slot some day so that we can have Monday Night Wars again!
